Alpine Stitch Throw

Let’s play a game. I’ll say a word and you tell me what you’re thinking. Ready? Hygge. I’ll tell you what comes to mind for me. I think of snow falling softly outside, blanketing to world in white. I think of a good book and a mug of hot chocolate. I think of being wrapped up in a cozy blanket. And when I think of a cozy blanket, I think of the alpine stitch.

The alpine stitch is made up of single crochets, double crochets, and front post double crochets and it produces a thick fabric that drapes beautifully. The stitches almost look like little pine trees. Find the pattern just below.

Alpine Stitch Throw

Materials

  • Worsted Weight Yarn in the colors of your choice (you’ll need approximately 1500 yards for a 30×36 baby blanket or about 1.4 yards per square inch of your desired blanket size)
  • I/9 – 5.25mm Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Experience Level

  • Easy – repetitive pattern consisting of single crochets, double crochets, and front post double crochets.

Pattern

Chain an odd number of stitches until you reach your desired length

  1. Dc in third ch from hook and in each across. Ch 2 and turn.
  2. Fpdc in first double crochet below, dc in next dc, *fpdc in next dc, dc in next dc,* repeat across. Ch 1 and turn.
  3. Sc in each dc and fpdc across. Ch 2 and turn.
  4. Dc in the first single crochet below, fpdc in the double crochet two rows below, *dc in the next sc, fpdc in the double crochet two rows below,* repeat across. Ch 1 and turn.
  5. Sc in each dc and fpdc across. Ch 2 and turn.
  6. Repeat rows 2-5 until your blanket reaches your desired length. Finish off and weave in ends.
