Let’s play a game. I’ll say a word and you tell me what you’re thinking. Ready? Hygge. I’ll tell you what comes to mind for me. I think of snow falling softly outside, blanketing to world in white. I think of a good book and a mug of hot chocolate. I think of being wrapped up in a cozy blanket. And when I think of a cozy blanket, I think of the alpine stitch.
The alpine stitch is made up of single crochets, double crochets, and front post double crochets and it produces a thick fabric that drapes beautifully. The stitches almost look like little pine trees. Find the pattern just below.
Alpine Stitch Throw
Materials
- Worsted Weight Yarn in the colors of your choice (you’ll need approximately 1500 yards for a 30×36 baby blanket or about 1.4 yards per square inch of your desired blanket size)
- I/9 – 5.25mm Hook (I love this set of Clover Amour crochet hooks)
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors

- Easy – repetitive pattern consisting of single crochets, double crochets, and front post double crochets.

- fpdc – front post double crochet
Pattern
Chain an odd number of stitches until you reach your desired length
- Dc in third ch from hook and in each across. Ch 2 and turn.
- Fpdc in first double crochet below, dc in next dc, *fpdc in next dc, dc in next dc,* repeat across. Ch 1 and turn.
- Sc in each dc and fpdc across. Ch 2 and turn.
- Dc in the first single crochet below, fpdc in the double crochet two rows below, *dc in the next sc, fpdc in the double crochet two rows below,* repeat across. Ch 1 and turn.
- Sc in each dc and fpdc across. Ch 2 and turn.
- Repeat rows 2-5 until your blanket reaches your desired length. Finish off and weave in ends.
