Gauge and Size

  • This chart is 60 squares by 90 squares when assembled.
  • The approximate finished size using the recommended medium worsted weight yarn and hook size is 47”x70” or 119x178cm
  • Gauge will vary depending on the brand of yarn used and your personal tension, but a 7×7 square made with the recommended medium worsted weight yarn and hook should be approximately 5”x5” or 13x13cm. Your personal gauge can affect the finished size by several inches/centimeters.

Joining the Panels

Note: The panels and segments may not have the same number of stitches. It is helpful to use stitch markers to hold the panel in place at the corners and regular intervals to ensure even joining.

Using a whip stitch, or joining method of your choice:

Step 1: Join Pear Panel and one Plain Panel.
Step 2: Join one Plain Panel and Acorn Panel.
Step 3: Join Pear and Acorn segments.
Step 4: Join Small Mushroom Panel and one Plain Panel.
Step 5: Join one Plain Panel and Apple Panel.
Step 6: Join Small Mushroom and Apple segments. Step 7: Join Hedgehog Panel and Pear/Acorn segment.
Step 8: Join Large Mushroom Panel to Small Mushroom/Apple Segment.
Step 9: Join one Vines panel with Hedgehog segment.
Step 10: Join Hedgehog Segment with Large Mushroom Segment.
Step 11: Join Vines panel with Large Mushroom Segment.

Border

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 1st ch.

This border pattern is worked in multiples of 3 on the sides.

Round 1: With border yarn of your choice, join the yarn to any stitch with a sl st, and ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in next 2 sc, *[picot, hdc in next 3 sts] across to 1 st before corner, picot, hdc in st before corner, [2 hdc, picot, 2 hdc] in corner space, hdc in next st; rep from * around, sl st to top of ch 2 to join.

Round 2: Sl st to next 2 hsc, ch 1, sc in same hdc, *ch 5, sk 2 hdc, sc in next hdc; rep from * to corner, ch 7 sk 2 corner hdc, sc in next hdc; rep from * around, sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.
