There’s something magical about the changing of the seasons, and nothing captures that feeling quite like a trip to the apple orchard. The crisp air, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot (because of course my children are running feral), and the bright pops of color from the apples hanging in the trees—it all creates a sense of warmth and nostalgia. This year, I found myself inspired by this photograph of a basket of freshly picked apples, and it immediately sparked the idea for a cozy fall yarn color palette. It’s a palette that truly captures the essence of those golden autumn days spent gathering apples.

The colors in the photograph are just as inviting as fall itself. The sky has a soft white hue, providing a simple backdrop. The foliage in the background and the leaves on the apples bring in a warm, earthy green. The apples themselves are a delightful mix of a red that’s almost pink and a subtle pale yellow. The deep, rich browns of the basket add a sense of rustic charm. These shades come together beautifully to create a color palette that is both comforting and warm.

For this palette, I’ve chosen two yarn brands that bring their own unique feel to these colors. Knit Picks Wool of the Andes is my go-to for more subdued, earthy tones, making it perfect for those classic fall projects. On the other hand, Stylecraft Special DK offers a bit more “pop” to the colors, with its brighter, more vibrant hues. Both yarns capture the essence of the palette, but in slightly different ways, allowing for a variety of creative possibilities.

The possibilities are endless when I think about the projects you could create with these yarns! The wool from Knit Picks makes perfect cozy sweaters, snug hats, and scarves—ideal for layering as the weather turns cooler. with its vibrant colors, the acrylic yarn from Stylecraft would be great for crafting beautiful blankets, whether it’s a large throw for your living room or a smaller lapghan for extra warmth. These yarns would also be fantastic for home decor items to bring that fall feeling indoors. Do you feel inspired by these colors? What are you going to make?
