New York Spring Yarn Color Palette

I didn’t understand the obsession with New York City until I had the opportunity to visit in the springtime. It was a cacophony of color and contrasts—the hard edges of steel and glass contrasted against the curve of old stone, and soft blooms of flowers and leaves seemingly everywhere. When I think of spring now, I can’t help but think of New York City. When I planned my spring yarn palettes, I knew I had to choose a photo from the city, and this one called to me.

The greens from the stems and leaves are subtle, yet beautiful. But the rich purples of the dew-dropped tulips sing in this photograph, arresting your attention immediately. They contrast beautifully against the iconic New York taxi, softly blurred but no less noticeable due to its bright yellow. And to tie it all together, the soft blue-gray of the glass and a soft white to ground the color palette.

For this yarn palette, I’ve chosen two brands of yarns that contrast each other playfully, much like the hard edges of the city contrast against the soft and beautiful things determined to thrive there. The first is Stylecraft Naturals Bamboo and Cotton, a delicate light dk weight yarn made from a beautiful blend of bamboo and cotton. This yarn is a dream when creating delicate items.
